DUAL FUEL PROGRAM

BENCO Electric Cooperative offers the Dual Fuel program as a method of cost-savings to all members. In the program, members who install electric heating appliances in their home receive a reduced energy rate for the enrolled appliances. Participants must allow BENCO to control (turn off) the enrolled electric heating appliance(s) during peak times for up to 12 hours per day (or 400 hours per year).

The member is responsible for having a back-up source which will automatically turn on during a controlled event. BENCO also allows water heaters to be installed in the dual fuel program.

Heating appliances included in the dual fuel program include an Air Source Heat Pump, a Ground Source Heat Pump (GEO Thermal Unit), Electric Resistive Heat (baseboards, electric boiler, electric cable systems, etc.) or Pool Pumps Heaters. Other loads may also qualify.

BENEFITS OF THE DUAL FUEL PROGRAM

  • Experience a reduced cost of electricity through the DF meter for controlled equipment.

  • Ability to add an electric water heater to the DF panel, resulting in additional savings.

  • Reduce your carbon footprint by using a “green” heating source.

After enrolling in the Dual Fuel program, the participant should hire an electrician to wire the dual fuel panel, meter socket and any necessary control wiring. BENCO will then install a receiver to communicate with during a controlled event. Participants can receive up-to-date text message notifications about when BENCO plans to control. Sign up for the text message notifications here.
